I’ll be the first person to tell you that I am not a fan of leftovers. But, lately I’ve been trying to be a lot more frugal and when I ended up with a paper bag full of day-old Philly soft pretzels, I knew I had to revive them into something new and exciting.
I knew I could wet them a bit and wrap them in foil and reheat them, but that was the easy way out. They would make a great appetizer, Auntie Anne style, with a little ingenuity. I searched online but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so I winged it!
I melted butter and added mustard, honey, garlic, a few shakes of hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce along with a dash of salt and poured it over the pretzels I had broken into bite sized pieces. I covered the pan with foil and baked it.
Half an hour later, my kitchen smelled amazing (kind of like homemade Chex Mix) and the result was fantastic. You could alter the seasonings to your taste and create something entirely different. Go buffalo style with Frank’s Red Hot sauce, celery salt and powdered ranch dressing mix or make it Italian with Italian seasoning, garlic and Parmesan cheese! I really don’t think you can mess this one up!
Baked Soft Pretzel Appetizers:
- 8-10 day-old soft pretzels
- 1 stick butter, melted
-
3 tablespoons prepared mustard
-
3 tablespoons honey
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Dash or two of hot sauce (to taste)
- 3-4 cloves minced garlic (to taste)
Preheat oven to 350. Break or cut pretzels into bite sized pieces and place in one layer in an 9×13 roasting pan. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over pretzels. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake 5-10 minutes until browned.
Enjoy! My niece, MacKenzie, certainly did!

Looks super yummy!!! But I was sure you were going to waffle them after seasoning!

Whoa – Why didn’t I think of that! That would definitely take them to the next level. Thanks for the suggestion!
