This blog has “waffle” in the title for a reason and this is my first “Will it waffle?” post!
Reheated pizza is nothing special, but throw it into a waffle maker and you have a whole new snack! I had my doubts about how this would turn out (or how messy my waffle maker would get) but read on to find out the results…
First, I started with a thick slice of Sicilian pepperoni pizza. I googled “waffling pizza” and the example I saw used a folded piece of thin crust, so I wasn’t sure how this would turn out. Be sure to spray your waffle maker well with Pam and don’t overcrowd it.
Next, close the lid and press down. Be patient. At first the cheese sticks, but you have to give it time to let the cheese caramelize to a nice, golden crispy brown. This slice was waffled on medium for about 7-8 minutes, but your waffle maker may take more or less time. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
Drum roll please……
Waffled thick crust pizza was a complete success! It was hot, toasty, crispy and cheesy. I give this recipe 2 thumbs up. You could be creative and add extra toppings before waffling. Add some prosciutto or maybe some extra veggies such as mushrooms or onions or bell pepper.
Just don’t complain to me when you have to clean up your greasy, cheesy waffle maker. It is worth the mess!
